Capsule Geology

The Dorothy vein, located 4.4 kilometres north-northeast of the Erickson gold mine vein package (MINFILE 104P 029), is approximately 13 kilometres southeast of the town of Cassiar in northern British Columbia.

The property lies within the Sylvester Allochthon situated on the northeastern margin of the Early Cretaceous Cassiar Batholith. The Sylvester Allochthon is a fault-bound imbricate assemblage of Mississippian to Triassic regionally metamorphosed (greenschist facies) oceanic rocks thrust over sediments of autochthonous North America. The assemblage in this area comprises greenstones, basaltic to andesitic flows, pyroclastics, ultramafics and tuffs of the Pennsylvanian to Permian Slide Mountain Complex, and Upper Triassic Slide Mountain Complex argillites.

Along the argillite-volcanic contact, a basal Mississippian to Permian detachment surface, is a well-developed listwanite horizon with associated flat-lying quartz veins and stringers. The Dorothy vein, however, dips steeply northward and is hosted by metavolcanics. The vein was exposed along strike for 21 metres with an average thickness of 0.65 metre in a trench (21 by 1 by 1 metres) along the Finlayson Road. An envelope of carbonate alteration and iron enrichment occur on either side of the quartz vein within the volcanics.

A chip sample taken over a 6-metre interval assayed 8.7 grams per tonne gold and 42.5 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 15059).

Work History

In 1986, Erickson Gold Mining Corporation established a grid and collected 820 soil samples for analyses in addition to road clearing and trenching.

During 2008 through 2010, Hawthorne Gold Corp., later China Minerals Mining Corp., completed regional programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and 11,657 line-kilometres of airborne magnetic, radiometric and electromagnetic surveys on the area as the Cassiar Gold property.

In 2019, Margaux Resources completed a program of prospecting, geological mapping and rock sampling on the area as the Cassiar Gold property. In 2020, Cassiar Gold Corp. completed a program of regional photogeological interpretation, prospecting and rock sampling on the Cassiar Gold property.
